The Verdant Curse - Campaign Overview

📖 Quick Summary

A mixed party of Ironhold soldiers and Verdanya natives are hired by spymaster Varen Grimm to hunt down The Thornwraith, a rebel leader planning something catastrophic. They must track her through corrupted wilderness, uncover her plot to steal Sylora's Spring Eye, and decide whether to stop her, help her, or find a better way.

💀 The Twin Crises

The Verdant Curse (Verdanya)

Cause: Ironhold stole Sylora's Winter Eye → endless spring → corruption spreads

Effects:

Plants grow uncontrollably (vines strangle, trees hunt)
Animals mutate (house-sized, glowing, aggressive)
People transform into Verdant-Born (bark skin, thorns, losing humanity)
Beautiful and terrifying simultaneously

Ashlung (Ironhold)

Cause: Ancient deity's dust disturbed during expansion

Effects:

Victims cough grey stone dust
Skin hardens, organs turn to stone
Streets filled with frozen statues
Only cure: Mourning Roses (rare, grow in Verdanya)

🎯 The Mission

Employer	Varen Grimm (Ironhold spymaster, dying of Ashlung)
Objective	Find the Thornwraith. Stop her. Bring her back alive or dead.
Payment	50 gold upfront, 200 on completion + blackmail silence + informant access
Catch	Off the books. If caught, disavowed.

What They DON'T Know (Initially)

Thornwraith's exact location (must investigate)
Her specific plan (stealing Spring Eye to end Verdant Curse)
The consequences (endless winter → mass starvation)
Who her allies are (Nessa is a spy!)
That there's a Path 3 (recover BOTH eyes, restore Sylora)

⚖️ The Three Paths

Path 1: Help the Thornwraith

Assist in stealing Spring Eye from Sylora

Consequence: Endless winter, Verdant Curse ends but Verdanya freezes, mass starvation

Moral Weight: "We saved Verdanya by dooming it"

Path 2: Stop the Thornwraith

Capture/kill her, return to Varen

Consequence: Get paid, Verdant Curse continues, Ironhold wins occupation, both nations suffer

Moral Weight: "We chose the lesser evil"

⭐ Path 3: Find Another Way (TRUE ENDING)

Action: Discover the real solution - return BOTH eyes to Sylora

Convince Thornwraith to wait (3 days)
Plan heist into Ironhold's vault
Steal back the Winter Eye
Return both eyes to Sylora

Consequence: Balance restored, both crises solvable, hardest path but heroic ending
